Isometric & Isotonic Exercise at a glance

Isometric
Isotonic
              1.         Sustain contraction of muscle for a definitive period of time where the length (metric ) of the muscle remain unchanged
              2.       length (metric ) of the muscle remain unchanged
              3.       It occurs without movement of the involving part of the body.
               4.       Effect on systolic blood pressure : Sharply increase
               5.       Effect on diastolic blood pressure : Sharply increase
              6.       Effect on stroke volume : change little
              7.       Effect on Total peripheral resistance : increase

               8.       Example: muscle against muscle; muscle against immobile subject.

               9.       Benefits : prevent Age related muscle loss

              1.     When the muscle contract against a constant load & the muscle tone remain unchanged instead of changing the length.
             2.     the muscle tone remain unchanged

              3.    Muscle maintains equal tone while shortening of exercise.
             4.     Effect on systolic blood pressure : Moderately  increase
             5.     Effect on diastolic blood pressure : normal or fall
            6.      Effect on stroke volume : marked increase
            7.      Effect on Total peripheral resistance : decrease
            8.      Example : lifting free weight

          9. Benefits: Used to strength muscle; Improved joint mobility.
