Type-IV hypersensitivity / Delayed Hypersensitivity / cell mediated Hypersensitivity at a glance

Types:

A. Delayed – type hypersensitivity when it is predominantly mediated by CD4 T cell
B. T cell mediated cytotoxicity when it is predominantly mediated by CD8 T cell

Cell involved:  Lymphocyte and Monocyte-macrophage series

        Examples:
·         Tuberculin test (CD4 T cell)
·         Graft rejection (CD4 T cell)
·         Contact hypersensitivity or dermatitis (CD8 T cell)
·          Lepromin test
·         Granulomatous inflammations
·         Type-I diabetes mellitus
·         Rheumatoid arthritis
·         Guillain-Barre syndrome
·         Multiple sclerosis
